I very recently became the proud owner of a 2011 E350cdi.
Well, you know the cradle thing in the boot that takes the folded roof- if you shove it forward it makes more room for luggage when the roofs up.

Question: Do you have to pull it back into position before lowering the roof or will the lowering process do it for you?
(You’ll understand why I don’t want to “suck it and see” ).

Lower it into position first or the roof will bleep at you and refuse to operate until you do.

As per above, unless the boot separator is correctly in the lowered position the roof won’t open.

There’s micro switches in the catches that tell the car when the separator is in the correct position so the roof can open.

It always plans to consider carefully where/when you decide to drop the roof , especially if you have shoved bags into the boot which may have knocked this boot flap thingy . The roof goes to mostly open and then stops and beeps at you , making you look like a right as&£ole in situations like in traffic jams , in ferries etc
