Hi

Apologies if this is in the wrong section. I'm new here and not sure where hood questions go.

We are having problems with the hood operation on our E220D. A while ago it started behaving strangely when we try to lower it. When we operate the switch everything starts okay, but after the latches on the tonneau and header rail unlatch it stalls. If we release the switch and lift it again the hood lowers fully.

Occasionally, the hood will refuse to go past this point altogether.

No matter where it has got to, it always raises perfectly.

We have had diagnostics run on it and no errors are being reported. The alignment has been checked and that is fine.

The garage don't want to replace the micros witches because they cannot guarantee that is the problem.

More often than not, if we can persuade it to work it will then work perfectly for the rest of the day.

Is there anybody on here who has experienced and resolved a problem like this, or has an idea what it could be?

This is driving us crackers, as we use the hood all the time, so all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Ian

I’d have a close look at the boot seperator. Ive not seen it yet on a 207, but on the 209 the little gas struts go weak and stop it pressing hard enough on the microswitch. They’ll often stop halfway when this happens with no fault codes

Thanks very much. Are you saying that it doesn't even trigger the 'Close boot separator ' message on the driver information display?

That message only appears right at the start if it isn’t shut. In my experience it won’t show you that message if it moves while the roof is being operated. It’ll just stop.

On ours, the message can appear when the hood is being stowed into the compartment, if there is something in the way. However I know the garage may not have checked the gas struts so will pass on this information.

Thanks for your help.
