Cam Sensor Symptom? SL 129

I have an intermittent problem on my 2000 SL 320. Sometimes the car will not start. The engine spins over. After leaving the car for a while it starts and runs normally. Initially I suspected the key battery and changed that but that has proved false.

The car was plugged into diagnostics yesterday but showed no faults

I now suspect the cam sensor, any other ideas?

Cam sensor replaced problem resolved ... hard top back on soon I think
