Hi all,

I have booked my '96 C class into a body shop to get the Camber castor and toe checked... does anyone have any guide for me as to the cost of this, just so I don't get fleeced.

Cheers Andy

Andy, I found a small tyre shop that had the latest USA optical gear they set my volvo up,every angle with a nice print out of before and after and the makers spec £40 last year, I can find the name of the set up gear if you wish.

Mine was in for a tracking and balancing check. They did a "full geometry". Leaseco paid but I was there a few hours including waiting for authorisation and washing (car not me)(yes I have).

Malcolm - thats great cheers mate. A guide of £40 is fine... I just had no clue what to expect, they could have said to me £200 and I would have said " oh ok..." so thanks for that.

Andy,

I agree with Malcolm TV. I normally pay £45.00 for a full alignment check. The garage I use has the read out on a monitor in the waiting room, so you can see what the values are and whats done to correct. No chance of them getting it wrong - I managed to pull them up on one value once when they tried!

Don't forget to get a FULL readout as it should give the manuf. figures and what your car measured at.

Optical alignment

I posted on another thread a couple of days ago about having a car aligned at Discount Tyres in Eastbourne on their optical system. If anyone's interested there's a write up of a visit there in one of the BMW magazines this month

Prices are something like this: basic check is £19.99, tracking is £30 and camber/castor is £24.95/wheel

Cor blimey guv! thats damn pricey - £129.80. My tyre shop has a full laser liner equipment, which provides a full 4 wheel read out of castor/camber/toe-in. I would hardly call them Discount Tyres. Those are stealer prices.

If your interested my tyre shop is Jeff Fowkes Wheels in Ibstock, Leics who charges £45.00 for a full check and will usually for the same price adjust toe-in if required. Camber/castor adjustment is time-charged.
