Can a faulty thermostat cause other issues?

If the Rest function doesn't work the most likely cause is failure of the electric pump.

Mine didn't work at first but was nothing more than a manky connector. It took me longer to find the pump than to fix it.

It was under the air box.

I've done a short clip so you can see for yourself. I followed the exact same procedure that you did. Pos 1, then pos2, start, load all the electrics. It was a cold start so the idle is a little higher than normal, about 800rpm. It wasn't revved any higher.
