Well, I'm now thinking of buying a W246 SE or AMG (but not Sport) Petrol. Anything to avoid, problems with them? Any difference between first 2012 versions to facelift in 2015? Thanks for advice.

You can buy any car you want and not worry - doesn't mean you won't have problems though :) .
The B-Class is a very under-appreciated car in my view. It doesn't fit everyone's idea of car "types" but we had one for 3 years (B180d) and it was great. Reliable, comfortable and plenty of space for four. Not the biggest boot, but fine for day to day. Not sure on the petrol versions, but the diesel was economical and had enough power, though if I bought another I'd go for the 200 or 250.
Try to get a higher spec one. The basic versions are lacking things like Climate Control and heated seats. Halogen headlamps are a bit weak too.

I agree, our A class (slightly smaller B class) keeps plodding along. I have to pry it away from the wifes hands. When they get on a bit, some maintenance items get neglected due to location (belts etc usually)

Our diesel does 60+ mpg on a run easily, is fast enough, quiet, comfortable, cheap to run and cheap to buy. Has some toys (multicontour seats!, bluetooth etc).
