Hi all,
I've been searching under Mobilolife and have ended up quite confused, sorry. Rather than diluting other threads I thought I'd start a new one.
Am I correct in thinking that as long as I buy a Mercedes (I'm looking at W210 E320 CDI) which has a full MB service history it's covered by this 30 year warranty.
Sounds too good to be true (and you know what they say about that...)
Simple explanations only please :)

Correct - FULL MB service history = 30 year warranty.

The MB website gives details. Don't be misled into thinking it is a thirty year warranty on everything. It isn't. That would be too good to be true. It is a 30 year rust guarantee (covering rust from the inside out -not rust due to scratches, stone chips, scrapes and bumps). It also gives you a free breakdown service in the UK and in Europe not just for the owner but for all other drivers too, provided you keep servicing the car with MB dealers.

There are some complications with minor mishaps cover such as punctures and running out of fuel or losing your keys for which you need to see other threads.

If you want long term cover for repairs/servcing etc see threads on Service Plus which will cover your car up to 6 years old or 120,000 miles whichever comes first. Quotes from the contacts on MB website.

Ahh, I knew there'd be a snag. Thanks anyway hawk.
As I'm looking at 6 (ish) year old cars at the moment it looks like I'd be better off not having MB services and try for a decent warranty then.

On a six year old car, it might just be worth keeping Mobilo up.

As far as the rust is concerned there seems to be an unwritten policy of repairing rust or faulty paintwork (as mentioned before, not stone chips etc) for the first eight years under what they term "Goodwill".

If it is going to go, six years is about the time it is going to show. (There is however an added complication that they may insist that you have owned the vehicle for six months before they carry out these repairs). After that you are only covered for rust coming through from underneath, ie penetrating though from the underside of the panel, and this is covered for the thirty years mentioned.

The second part of the warranty is the breakdown cover, and this is as the name suggests, keeping you mobile. If you breakdown, they will send a technician out to you to carry out roadside repairs, if this proves not to be possible they arrange to have the vehicle transp-orted to the nearest dealer and will provide you wth a replacement vehicle of a similar quality to your own. This is all at their expense, but you are liable for any parts and labour used in the repairs.

Hawk has made several very informative posts on this subject, worth searching the forum and digesting before you make a final decision.

Hope this helps

There is a good reason for this. The 30 year guarantee began with Mobilo on 24th October 1998. Prior to that there was eight years. A lot of the ones you read about, so far, are registered prior to October 1998 and so done under goodwill and the 8 year rule.

I assume we will begin to see more done under the thirty year warranty and then eventually we hope it will all end when the fully galvanised ones from 2002/3 onwards become the oldest around.
