Can the exhaust be painted?

After 12 years the end pipe is still in good condition in grey original paint.

To preserve it can I paint it especially the pipes, and if so what should I use?

Zinc paint?

If you want the hot bits of your exhaust to look good and last just about the only solution is a full stainless system or ceramic coating.

Hi,
Any heat resistant paint will do, especially as the taipipes are the cooler end of the exhaust. try Halfords.

I use hammerite silver smoothrite for the pipes out of the rear box, it doesn't seem to degrade much with the heat. The pipes arn't visible on the 320 though so I would take TVs advice and fit chrome tailpipes if they were.

Is it recommended to paint the catalyst? I used Hycote VHT. It said it can be used in manifold but didn't say it can be used on catalyst. My fear it blocks heat dissipation and caused the catalyst to overheat and malfunction.

It rotting from outside due to the salt I am worried about.

Also running over a sleeping policeman, I can hear movement somewhere at the middle immediately after the catalyst.

That will just be wind, let him sleep it off or avoid driving over him in the first place!
