Can W124 parts fit all years and models?

Here I go again with my W124 questions:

from my understanding, 1986-1995 (?) were the years that the W124 chassis was used. Pretty much the 260E, 300E, 320E, 400E, 500E shared the same shell, but the brakes, engine, and suspension varied. Around 1993 - 1995 the W124 received an updated shell, but retained the same chassis?

Theoretically you can take any of the upgraded ,engine or suspension components from a 500E that's been wrecked and slap em on your 300E, correct? And you can take parts from any W124 AMG of any year and slap em on a W124 of any year as well (with modifications if necessary) correct?

I mean, they're all the same chassis right? So why wouldn't they fit?

In theory, they can all be made to fit. Just be aware that the E500 was left hand drive only (do manifolds/exhaust clear RHD steering box??) + they had a wider track & so flared wheel arches.

Your question has no answer. Yes everything fits and is interchangeable. And no, some parts are model specific - like drive shafts, diffs, gearboxes, engines, etc, etc

NO - they will not automatically fit, as some parts were for some models and other parts were for other models.

An instance might be that you changed the brakes for bigger ones and then tried to fit your wheels back on - it is likely they would not go back on because the new upgraged caliper does not provide sufficient clearance for the inner wheel rim.

OK so you fit the bigger 8 inch wide rims as well - but they will likely foul the front wheel arch as you turn the steering.

That is just one example, there are numerous other examples of conflicts and difficulties.
