I've got 275/30/19 rear tyres on my E class. Is it possible to go to 275/35/19 slightly bigger sidewalls?

Thanks

You can do, but you’ll have to alter the fronts as well otherwise you’ll most likely get an ABS/ESP error as there will be a speed imbalance between the axels.
Also the Speedo reading will change due to the increased tyre diameter.

I’m presuming it’s for comfort, find some 18“ or preferably 17” wheels and tyres. You’re back and suspension will thank you...

The previous owner of our r230 did exactly that.
We have +5% profile both ends.

Interesting reply LK - I have proper 225/45 R17 Xclimates on the front of my S204 but cannot get 245/40 Xclimates (or alternative all weather tyres ) for the rear, seems either 235/45 or 240/45's are available. Same problem potentially on the SLK, although I have new Goodyears (summer tyres) on the fronts so will only be looking some time to replace the hard Hangkook rears on that car.

Malcolm went 285/35/19 on the rear and 245/40/19 front on the 230.

My fronts are already a different size (factory spec)

The point is you need to increase both front and rear. The abs, cruise, tpms and ESP all measure the speed of each wheel to determine if there is an issue and react accordingly.
If you make only the rear wheels a larger diameter it appears the fronts are spinning too slowly so the system gets confused. If you increase tears you must therefore increase fronts proportionately.

What e class do you have? If its w212 or w213 it should standard be 275/35/19 for the rears and 245/40/19 for the fronts.

My summers are
245/35 x 19
275/35 x 19
have zero exhibited faults and never seen the lights flash. In theory should not work but does.

Plan to go with 245/40 x 19 when change tyres as will bring front/rear very close to comparable diameter.

The 275/35x19 will fit your W212 without any fouling.

Don't forget that your speed/distance etc will be around 4% out.
At an indicated 70 you will actually be at 73 ish

Assuming your speedo isn't already reading 5% low like most are.

Around 2mph low but on mine checked with GPS is a fixed 2mph rather than a percentage.
So yes you would still be 'legal' on speed issues. Also it should keep gear changes in the right torque window.

I went to 225/45/17 all-round on the SLC with Nokian all season tyres.

Have thought about that, but wonder about the effect of reducing the rear tyre width by 20mm of road contact - as that's where the car puts the power down. I'm not a boy racer or track fiend, so possible would not notice - but also wonder about putting 225's on the wider rear rims as both my cars have staggered 17" set-up from new.

On our last SLK200K we had the staggered set up on the summer wheels & all the same size on the winter wheels, never noticed any difference. Our first SLK200K had 205/55/16 all around.
My E350CDI has the same set up, again no problems.

The standard tyres on my S203 were also 205/55R16 so no issues with 225 all round.
The tyre fitter did struggle a bit to get the 225s to inflate initially on a 8.5J wheel but it is an acceptable size for that rim and they have not lost any pressure in the years they have been fitted.
I would go to 245 on the rear if Michelin made a Crossclimate available to us in the UK.

This is it .

Upsize wheels , calculator said near 2% difference in speedo , used two different GPS apps and the bigger set up was more accurate .
