Hi folks,
I've just recently bought my first Mercedes Benz; it's a 2003 E200 Kompressor, and so far I've learned that it'll not be my last Mercedes—really like the car.

Could someone please help with my query?
Is it possible to manually fold in the wing mirrors?
I know electrically-powered folding wing mirrors are an option on the E-class, but my car does not have them.
The owner's manual only refers to electrically-powered folding wing mirrors, but mentions nothing about being able to fold the mirrors manually, so I'm at a loss.
I've tried to fold them just by pushing them inwards with my hands, but they're extremely stiff, and I give up after they've rotated perhaps 30º—I'm just afraid if I force them any more that I'll damage or break them.

Any help for a learning newbie? Would be very much appreciated.

Regards,
Ken.

Ken.

Keep pushing...towards the door glass - not towards the front wings. The springs are tough but they will go. If your going to regularly fold th emirrors, this will allow crud in the mechanism so rmeember to lube it every now and then

My thoughts are that 'fixed' door mirrors would be a safety hazard should they strike a pedestrian (or other object) and would, therefore, be an illegal fitment under motor vehicle construction laws!.........

I would put money on it that they will fold!

I agree with Alfie on this one. Unless Malcolm can give us some evidence. I have tried with E's and C's but never been able to fold the mirrors manually. Tried but so hard you feel they are going to break. Nothing in the handbook says you can fold manually. Surely Merc would put it there if you could.
Asked local dealer and sales guy says cannot fold manually. But hey they do make mistakes.

We clearly need to get this clear or the thread remains misleading to all in future who read it. Does anyone, Malcolm included of course, have any firm evidence that the mirrors can be folded manually. We know the electrically folding mirrors can be folded at the press of a button. But if this option is not chosen does anyone have evidence that the ordinary mirrors can be manually folded -either from a handbook, or a manual, or from personal experience? My experience on E's, C's, A's and B's is that you cannot fold them (at least not with any level of force that I was prepared to risk).
