I am guessing, its off a W123. I haven't physically seen the part, but the size of the connector suggests its an ECU. I would suggest, tracing the wiring from where the plug is. If it splits off and some bits go to throttle body, sensors, etc then its the ECU.

Once its all fitted onto the car, what are the symptoms of your problem?

Just check tis previous thread Old girl Mercedes 280E start stop. Its being a very slow process in repair the engine type does not seem to fit in with what it is supposed to be.

Are you thinking that there is a non-standard Mercedes engine in your car? I think http://www.mbz.org/cars/motor/ has a resource where you can look up the first 6 digits of the engine number, as fitted to each model. For example you could look up the correct 2.8litre motor for a W123, to see if yours is the correct type of motor.

It was in the passenger footwell behind a pull off cover. Thought the ecu was on the side of the engine bay passenger side near the front. The engine number on the v5 matches how it should be but I cant find the engine number anywhere on the engine no dont worry deff not a ringer. Just very strange.

Really scratching my head now, ABS will have to have a rethink I really thought it was to do with mixture control no way to follow the wires to see where they go. I still love mercs.

Why can't you follow the wires?

The location you describe, suggests ECU.

Because they go into a wiring loom through the bulkhead and out under the battery where a large wiring loom comes out. Have tried .

After hours of trawling the web I found this 2 numbers out on the last digits but its from a Jag says ABS ECU
boschabsecu.bmp

Sorry to be such a pain but could this still be a ECU and not a ABS.
280e003.jpg

This is where the unit came from side of passenger footwell.
280e001.jpg

This is what I thought was the ECU
280e002.jpg

And finaly the engine.
Apologise to all for taking up so much of this thread but as you preberly guessed I am running out of ideas.
Any help really appreciated Kev

The engine is definitely a 110 motor.

What you thought was the ECU, is in fact an electronic ignition module.

Sorry Ive been away. Pauls reply is confusing IMHO. sorry Paul. I think he means the unit on you inner wing PICTURE is the ignition module-thats correct. The original unit in the passanger footwell is the ABS UNIT !!

Have you tried looking under the glove box compartment older mercs used to hide their engine ECUs there?
