I've just bought a 2018 C220D which soon told me it needed AdBlu. I added it and went into the service messages and acknowledged the one that said I wouldn't be able to start the car in 320 miles. The trouble is, it keeps reappearing every time I start the car. How can I turn it off ?

there's a common fault within the AdBlue system .... take it back to the seller for them to sort out. Don't let them fob you off

Dig deep into your pockets and shell out for a new AB tank probably.

But do as mentioned by my learned enthusiast above.

Hello and welcome

You shouldn’t need to cancel any AdBlue message after filling up. The car should after a few minutes running update the level and remaining range.

Yours not doing this shows an error with the AdBlue system, this is unfortunately rather common. Take it back and get the seller to sort it.

Thanks for all your (slightly depressing) responses. One thing I might have mentioned is that the level and range data has updated so I know that the refill has been sensed. My new question is therefore whether the car will refuse to start when the mileage countdown reaches zero?

If you're getting a Service Message saying "I wouldn't be able to start the car in 320 miles."
Then you will not be able to re-start the car after you have reached that mileage.
You really do need to insist that the seller needs to resolve the issue before you do anything else, there are far too many horror stories of expensive repairs to Adblue systems to ignore!

Did it tell you that it needed an AdBlue service afer you'd driven it about 20 miles, by any chance? When my new-to-me ML250 diesel had an AdBlue issue that's how long it would take from the dealer clearing the fault code to having it come back again (they took several attempts at fixing it before I ran out of patience and asked for my money back instead). It is possible that your seller innocently thought that topping up the AdBlue and clearing the fault was sufficient, but if they have any knowledge at all then they must have known that they were selling you a faulty car.

No I had driven it about 1000 miles before the AdBlue warning appeared and I refilled it after about another 100 miles.

many parts in the ad blue system, pump, injector nozzle and nox sensors, i would take it back asap as this could cost a lot of money.

So the NOX sensor is an element of the AdBlue sensing system? That may be the explanation for the problem as there is an amber engine warning light showing on the dash, which the diagnostics showed that was because the NOX sensor needs replacing, and that work is agreed to be done under warranty. Maybe, when they change the NOX sensor, the AdBlue warning will then disappear? is that feasible? The only problem with this sequence is that NOX sensors are on back-order at present and so it may not be possible for that work to be be done before the 300 mile limit of the Adblue warning is reached. Hmmmm!

when it was plugged in was the nox the only fault? hopefully just a sensor change will cure it but these systems are complex with many parts making the system work, also car will not regenerate with the light on.

Yes the nox was the fault. I was told about it not regenerating until the nox is replaced but we cannot accelerate the supply of the part. Fortunately, we don't need to do a lot of miles in the Merc at present and may be able to eke out the remaining 280 or so.

My eldest has rejected his A180d for exactly the same reason. EML and AdBlue remaining warning came on 5 times, Mercedes changed loads of bits but still not 100% so it’s going. Pity as it was a nice car, just the emissions carp is rubbish (same on all Euro 6, not just a Mercedes issue :()
