I got my carsoft compatable (proper) multiplexer and CS 7.4 the other day. It all works really well, except for the ESP and ABS systems.

So it cannot find my ESP system at all, and the ABS is reporting back with invalid values. It can connect to the BAS (but only when I connect directly to pin 9 of my OBD port (all 3 of these systems are supposed to be on pin 9 of OBD according to my 2008 WIS)).

The BAS directly, and all other systems on the car via the multiplexer, all seem to be working fine. Its just the ABS and ESP that aren't working for me. The AAM test gave back several stored errors about low voltage and CAN comms problems.

I think either way the multiplexer will have to be replaced since it cannot connect to the BAS through the multiplexed connection. But to me the ABS and ESP thing is more important to get sorted at the moment, and may be the difference between a replacement or money back instead. So I would greatly appreciate any feedback about the following 2 things...

1. Does anyone have any tips for what I should do now about the ABS and ESP systems. I don't actually have any live errors or error status lights up on the dash of the car (MY2002). But these 2 systems are fairly common sources of issues, so it is kind of important to have a tool that can interface with them. I'm thinking maybe cleaning the connectors at each module would be a good start?

2. If possible I would also like someone to confirm that the ESP and ABS tests in carsoft do actually work with the 2002 (facelift) W163 ML (and are on pin 9 of the OBDII port).

Thanks for reading. By the way I did post this on a different (US) forum - not naming any names, but I'm slowly beginning to realise there is far more expertise on this forum.

There are a few post running re the car soft 7.4 and the ML
I cant add much to your post, only that when I have had a faulty ECU the STAR will not comunicate with that ECU, but it does say that it cant.

PSMart knows the ML well and carsoft as he has both.

Where did you buy the carsoft from please, as we also have post running on this.

I got this one... http://cgi.ebay.com.au/MB-Mercedes-Multiplexer-OBD-1-2-CS-fuer-Carsoft-7-4-OBD2_W0QQitemZ160296275164QQihZ006QQcategoryZ148866QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
It has a proper multplexer and I am quite impressed with it (apart from my issues with ESP and ABS, but I think that is because there is something wrong with my car).

For example, using the CDI live data in CS7.4 I can see that injector 1 and 4 have a positive fuel trim being applied, whereas the rest of the injectors are negitive and/or zero. It just so happens that inj 1 and 4 have slight blow-by leaks at the moment, so that fault is being reported correctly by CS - this pleases me.

And I forgot to say that it does come with the carsoft software, though it doesn't show it in the picture (for obvious reasons, nudge nudge say no more). Just follow the supplied installation instructions on the CD to the letter and you will be good to go.

Also an update on my ESP ABS situation. I found that the AAM module keeps reporting a B1040 fault, which means CAN comms is down (on one or more of 6 possible other modules - it doesn't specify which) But if I put 2 and 2 together I think I will start looking at the ABS and ESP CAN connections to the AAM. I did eventually find the relevant instructions for this B1040 fault in the WIS, but it looks like a bit of a major, so I might not get round to it for a while. Luckily for me I do a fair bit of work with CAN for my day job, so I should be a few steps ahead of the game when the time comes.

Hi Stumo,

Ive used Carsoft 7.8, 8 and Ultimate, and from memory on my MY2001 ML270, never had an issue reading ABS/ASR/ETS or BAS modules. Never looked into which pins are being used to query which module as I never needed to, but does sound like you have a hardware problem.

One thing though, are you using a hardware RS-232 port or one othe USB-RS232 ports? I was advised that you need the RS-232 (builtin to your motherboard, or via a PCMCIA card) for the software to work correctly.

I cant be 100% sure, but from memory, the ML270 isnt fully CAN enabled, so could be a red-herring. On the C220 for example, the Carsoft will query a module such as the AAM or EAM by building communications, then part way through switch to CAN communications. Ive not seen this on the ML.

Can you rip a copy of 7.8? I am getting 7.4 tomorrow and hope to have some fun on it.

It quicker to buy from the UK based and saved you paying extra for VAT. I bought the last one yesterday. Sure he will get more, they are not genuine but all you want are the hardware.

I'd be suprised if all K-lines are connected at that price.

Unfortunately not! 7.8 requires a key generated by CarSoft International to activate, versions 8 and Ultimate require both a key and a USB dongle which is coded to your installation. I also believe that CarSoft has builtin a hardware identifier into their hardware as well.

Maverick Technologies had some reasonably priced 2nd hand systems for sale.

Yes I can read the BAS fine, which is supposed to be on the same K-line as ABS and ESP, so it definately points to a car issue, rather than a carsoft/multiplexer issue.

yes I am using a built-in serial port on my laptop (HP nx6320), though it is getting harder to find decent laptops with built in legacy ports these days. We have had this issue at work for about 5 years now, so I know not to even go there with USB to legacy port adaptors.

Thanks for the heads-up, according to the 2008/01 WIS there are several different comms setups during the ML (W163) production run. Mine is part of the second to last batch, and carsoft does do comms on it just like you stated with the AAM and EAM on the C220. Anyway, a quick test with my scopemeter will tell me if it is CAN or not.

Interesing to know, but in so saying, does CarSoft 7.4 support your car? CarSoft 7.8 went upto 2005 cars, so perhaps its possible that your ABS/ASR/ETS module uses a newer comms technique not known to CarSoft 7.4. Unfortunately I dont have CarSoft 7.4, so cant verify this.

Got my toy early for Christmas.:D

But how do you install the software especially steps 4 and 5? Couldn't understand the broken English and the crack files.

Tried to install in Vista, can't see the activation icon on the desktop. On invoking the activation.exe file in MB subdirectory, it won't run.

Where do I find the activation code?

Got it working on my PC, yet to try it on the car.

Bl**dy difficult to understand the broken English. Installed it 6/7 times before I got it right.

No problem, give me a shout when you get your toy.

I put it here early so when you get your toy, refer it here.

Don't install in Vista, for it won't work, more over it needs an RS232 port most laptop do away with, find an old PC or laptop which got one.

Steps 1 to 4 OK, just follow it. In step 5 when they said crack two files, they meant patch the equivalent filenames. Doing the first one is useless because it already done. Just double click to run the files and patch it in Program Files\Carsoft\MB where you will find the two files.

Just run the MB Carsoft sp1 icon located on the desktop.

Very lightweight diagnostic system.

The next step is to look for 7.8 and/or MB STAR 2008. Anybody got a clue please give me a shout. I am not going to pay $900 for one.

Then you will be waiting for a long time. As Psmart said there is much more hardware copy protection on 7.8 and above. Think about it, if these people selling the copies in China can make a system that works with post 7.4 they would have already done it and be selling that instead.

I forgot that I'm a pro when it comes to installing hacked software - I've never paid for any software in my whoile life. So the installation is simple if you are used to that type of thing. Oh by the way dragon, on all the listings in eBay it says right near the top that it won't work in vista.

The stuff I bought from didn't said it would not work on Vista. I finally got it sorted out, there is a broken English manual that does not come with the package, you have to ask for it. Send me a PM if anyone want a copy.

Me no hold a career or full time job of hacking software.
