Can't turn the air con off

Can any of you offer me a little advice, I can’t turn the air conditioning in my M reg (W124) off, it is running all the time and now the weather has turned it is starting to get cold in there!

I would like to take the panel off witch houses the temperature and direction switches which is just above the radio as the three buttons on it are not lighting up and I wish to see if they are getting any power or weather they have been by-passed at any time in the past but I an unable to see how it comes off.

Any advice gratefully received.

AFAIK the knobs just pull off and there are screws that hold the panel behind
