insurer

Admiral, elephant, diamond all the same company, I have also never found a cheaper quote. They are a good insurer too. Mrs wrote off our car last year, they were as good as gold.

I always try confused.com for my insurance.

Through them I was given a quote £30 cheaper than what my current insurers wanted & it turned out it was the same insurance firm (Direct Choice)... Spooky!

aye always try different insurance companys is my advice , there constantly changing due to a Competitive market , confused.com , elephant.co.uk etc are good places to start , i just got a very good quote for mine off of adrian flux specialist insurance due to the nature of my car most mainstream companys cant insure me.

Cheapest insurance

Hi All

The cheapest I've ever encountered is Churchill but I'm presently with Chris Knott Associates. But I always recommend shopping around.

However, cheapest does not necessarily mean best. That aspect you only really discover when you make a claim.

There is no such thing as a 'cheapest' insurer. Only an insurer that's cheapest for you, driving your car and living in your area this particular week. Rates change daily so what's good today can be daft tomorrow. Hence, use the search engines initially, but then ring the insurer directly or go directly to their site, as these search engines are on commission so you often get a better price directly.
Also, ring your existing insurer, especially if you've been with them a few years and haven't claimed. They don't like losing customers so explain you don't want to move but equally don't want to pay them so much more than their competitors. I've had drastic reductions in premiums twice by doing this and consequently am still with the same firm (Frizzell) that I started with in 1997.
That said, the Mrs moved to Sainsburys from Eagle star as they were less accomodating. Saved £250 in the process.

I insure both cars with More-Than, I know there's cheaper out there, but I get a fair rate for having two cars with them and there is the reassurance that our no claims is protected no matter how many claims are made, and as said above every year I press for a reduction based on being a long standing customer - only got £15 off each policy this year, but it all helps ;)

I have now been with Admiral for about 5 years and are by far the cheapest I've come across. One caveat though, the old maxim about not knowing the worth of an insurer until you have to claim is true - I've never had to so I can't speak from that side.

Just one thing. Admiral are very good for insuring stock models but any hint of modifications and they do stack the premium a tad. A couple of examples to show what I mean:

When I was looking to buy an *ahem* Alpina *ahem* all Alpinas were registered as modified BMWs, not models in their own right and Admiral declined to insure. I think the same may be true of early W/C124 E36s too.

Admiral were going to charge more for a 2.0 litre Saab 95 with a turbo mod than a stock 2.3 Aero which was much faster.

Just looked at their web site and went through the process of getting a quote, seems quite competitive, so I will get another quote nearer my expiry date, here's a link .............

I noted that it would seem they are underwritten by London Victoria so might be worth getting a quote from them as well ;)

If you're in public service, then Eagle Star / Zurich offer discounts too.

Hi,

Kwik fit is recommended. Very reasonable price (£167 for me) and you get free MOT and a 10% discount at kwik-fit.

I am not sure how they deal with accidents.

It's Liverpool Victoria (actually think they've gone all modern and are called LV= now!).

Mine + Mrs Rory's insurance is with Frizzell, we get CSMA discount of 7.5% (anyone who has, or has had connections with Civil Service can join CSMA and for the last couple of years it's been free). What Cars insurance is through them too.
I put a claim through them and it was all handled painlessly - although it was the third party's fault, but they even waived the excess, which I expected to have to pay and reclaim.
They give automatic courtesy car cover and they also don't load for speeding points!

However, I tried them for my daughter and they were way out, and I found their house insurance stupidly expensive too.

On Admiral (whom both my kids are with) one issue which I've seen mentioned is that if the car is written off, they will only value it as a standard car, they don't pay for options. I'm not totally clear if this is correct, but if you've got a Merc with £7K worth of options (as I have) you might want to check. I think their audio cover is only £500, and I'd be concerened about what happened if someone nicked my COMAND. Frizzel's cover is unlimited on factory fit items.

I had a quote from these people at Swiftcover after using More-Than and the quote was £220 less than More-Than. Also I hate the More-Than call centre which is in India as the people just don't understand what you tell them and work from cue cards.

https://secure.swiftcover.com/

This policy is internet based but after studying the details it wasn't half bad.

I am currently in the process of settlement from Admiral for a write off and they are not too bad but most certainly not the quickest. The worst thing about them is that they actually don't talk to each other in the same office, yesterday I had an email from them saying they hadn't received all my documents despite me sending them special delivery 2 weeks ago. Obviously I was in panic as I sent everything related to the car, service history, receipts etc. stuff that would have been almost impossible to replace without some serious work.

Turns out they were wrong and that they had received it after all.

They have also sent 3 wrong letters since they informed me it was a total loss saying that 'x' engineers had been appointed to authorise repairs and I needed to send the excess to the garage. Each time I have had to call them for them to say it's a mistake.

Hopefully I can answer the question better in a couple of weeks when they get back with a settlement,

insurance

hi, i run a few cars, as yet i have found SURETERM DIRECT to be well priced, good cover and the rare thing of being helpfull and treat you like a person and not just another punter on the phone(getting rare now days),no waiting on the phone for three days for them to take your call(well odd times it may happen)one of the vehicles i have is a japan import, some insurance companys will noy touch it,others came up with prices like £1200, sure term did it cheaper than my range rover!!!,my partners 4x4 is also with them as no one on the net could compare with ther price!,norwich union gave me a price double that of sure term, yet my policy is with n/union through sure term!,allways check your excess on the policy,as again the larger the price we had also had a larger excess, sure term direct was recmmended by a friend,i had not heard of them untill i saw they where the sponsers for the 'Haynes workshop manuels' car weekend!.as with all insurance one company may work for myself but not for the next man, cheers

Read all the replies on this subject and no one has mentioned Mercedes Benz Insurance. From my knowledge of similar schemes, one advantage is that the repair will be carried out at one of the manufacturer's dealerships. Any comments?
