Hello,

Got an E Class, coupe 2011, 220d
Due to lockdown, last drove a week ago and perfectly as should. Tried to start it today and it doesnt tick over. Doors open, stereo works fine, dash shows up when you open door but when you put key in nothing happens, no click or electric pulse.

Thought it could be the battery so tried to jump start, then called out the breakdown company who said battery is fine and the both keys are good too (tested battery in both keys). Done a basic diagnostic test and said nothing is showing up on his system so it could be the EZS.

The only thing I did differently is that I cleaned the keys with a 99% alcohol cleaning wipe and the key area, could this cause an issue? Also, are there any other things I try before I get it recovered to a garage?

Thanks

Steering lock is more common on these. If you have a manual adjust column try slamming it in and out a couple of times.

I had Greenflag mechanic over yesterday who said he worked for Merc a few years ago, who said it could be that as the battery seemed fine when he tested it.

Forgive my ignorance, but what's a VM?
Thanks for reply

Mate, that has done the trick! First time i tried, didn't work, second time i pushed it up and down, whacked it proper in and out and sorted it!

If you got a paypal account, let me know, I'll drop in something small for when the pubs open! Saved me a real headache and potentially some dough!

Smart + others :)
Get it changed ASAP, as it WILL fail again. If you have to use, make sure you park with wheels straight, so if it does fail perminately, it makes it easier to recover.

Haha! You're ok mate, that's what we're here for. Bear this as an early warning - it'll do it again. A new ESL is on your list.
