Car won't start after backfire

Hi,

My 1990 300SE was being driven round a roundabout when there was a power loss, then a muffled backfire and it hasn't started since. The car was running on LPG at the time and a search through previous threads suggests a vacuum line problem. Can anyone help by providing a diagram of the vacuum system around the engine and possibly suggest which line/hose might be the culprit.

With the first 6 numbers of your Vin you can navigate around this site and find what you need. Although it sounds a bit more than a vacuum problem from what you have described.

Theres a pipe under the air filter, on the side of the metering head that goes to the idle control valve, check that this hasn't blown off. let us know. also check the rotor arm carrier hasn't snapped.

Sorry to take so long to reply. I removed the air filter casing but couldn't find a loose pipe underneath. AA man checked the distributer - said strong spark going in but weak spark to plugs. Towed to Independent MB workshop who spotted the loose hose predicted by Star Motors above immediately. Car started straight away - thank you gentlemen. All I need to do now is to find out why it stalls around roundabouts on LPG.

Try keeping your LPG tank filled past the output pipe it might be a serge if there is no baffles in the LPG tank.
