My C207 wouldn't start this morning. The problem started last night, when driving home the amber temperature warning light came on and the fan kicked in. So left it overnight and checked the coolant level this morning and that was fine, but it seems the fan had been going off intermittently all night and still is. Tried to start the car, it's totally dead. I'll phone my indie when he opens later, but in the meantime, any idea's? :(

Sounds like faulty sensor telling ecm to run fan. Tho why that would not time out when key is not in ignition is somewhat beyond me.

You haven’t blocked scuttle drains and water into a SAM have you?

Sorry, Russ what do you mean?
Open the bonnet look below the windscreen and see if there's water pooling below the bonnet hinges - if so clear it out - there's drains in the bottom that fill with leaves and other detritus, this water build up then gets into places it shouldn't SAM (Signal Acquisition Module) is common, these control many car functions and adding water means things do strange things.

Id agree with this and the sensor has somehow bridged itself at the connections or internally causing it to run on. We purposely used to do this with some wire, back in the day to keep the temperature down in hot summers if the fan wouldn't kick in.

I've also read about the Aircon pressure sensor failing ,causing it's fan to run on also.

Update, went to my indie, he said it sounds like the battery, so 1st thing charge the battery up, so I've bought a battery charger, I'll put it on charge and see if will start tommorow, then take it back to my indie to have a further look. :)

I know, Wighty, I'm presuming it's coincidence, I don't know how old the battery is, must admit as much as I love the car, this last 12 months has tried my patience a tad.:)

There should be a date stamp on one of the battery terminals

Sounds like he/she/they think(s) that the fan running constantly has flattened the battery, preventing the car from starting this morning, which is completely plausible.

Hope they manage you sort the problem easily when you take it in. Cars hey… ood ‘ave ‘em

Isn't that everyones thought ?

I'd be more concerned about the warning light and the fan running on its own ,seeing as the car was running at the time and the battery would of been charging.

Put the new charger on, the fan has started, it goes for 5 secs then stops, then goes for 5 secs then stops and so forth, I'll leave it charging overnight and see were we are tommorow morning, hope it starts.

I think it will start in the morning, but like @onefortheroad, I’d get it in so that the indie can try to get to the bottom of the underlying problem.

of course your battery will be flat if its running a fan all night. I guess you battery ran out juice eventually running a faulty fan. Why didnt you charge your current battery?
