i have recently bought a 300E 24, 1990 h-reg, it has on the back of the car a carat duchatelet badge, ive asked around local car guys and they say its the bodykit it has, but it only has bodykit on the front and rear bumpers, it has no skirts on either side, it does has carat duchatelet alloys on it also, i would like to find out if it is a real carat duchatelet, what it means, what is the difference between them and normal 300e 24 's were they offical, where can i get the skirts from and do they have any special features or not.

can someone spread some light on them

i need to know its doing my head in

There is a 190E Carat near where I live and all that seems to be different is the wheels, special paint and piping on the seats.

I often wonder if there is anything else different but nobody seems to know

Hi

The company I believe is no longer in business. I may be wrong. They supplied to most of the MB network. But not part of the official MB network, Wheels & skirts etc. Personally I don't think they are worth pursuing. But I think they were based up North.

Duchatelet is a Belgian firm who have been going since the late seventies. They used to do body kits, wheels and interior retrims, mainly for the S-class. These days they seem to concentrate on armour-plating vehicles. I think they get a lot of their business from Russia!

My brother-in-law's father has a W126 500SEL with the full Carat Duchatelet body kit and lowered suspension, finished in turqoise. I have to say, I prefer the W126 as MB made them!!

However, I have a set of 15" alloys made for Duchatelet by Ronal in 1988, which are quite a pleasant 5 spoke design, and will be going on my W126 soon. The guy I bought them from mentioned that Lancasters in Ipswich used to be the main importer of Duchatelet stuff. Maybe they can point you at a source for side skirts?
