How should I care for my leather steering wheel? I am conscious that this is a difficult area as grip is paramount. But I feel I should do something to care for the leather.
My wheel feels slghtly sticky (good for grip) but with my sweaty paws on it 2hrs a day I don't like the feel.

Any suggestions?

Don't forget the obligatory tartan blanket on the back seat and nodding dog ;)

Seriously though, all I do with mine is a light(ish) wipe with a damp (not wet) cloth.

Daveenty, do you not feel you should feed/condition the leather?

Nah, at least not on the wheel.

Most so called *conditioners* are by nature slightly slippery. Combine this with the controls and you may start to get problems. I do everything else in the car, seats, door cards, dash etc. with and Autoglym product (can't remember the name and it's lashing down at the moment so ain't looking) but, as stated, a damp rag only on the wheel.

It looks OK though :)

We do get some interesting things here. Oil from our skin is the worst enemy on leather, well that is what RR taught me :idea:

I find this quite an odd notion, the oil in our skin is similar to the natural oils in any kind of mamalian skin (leather). The stickyness you get on the wheel is that same oil (lanolin) mixed up with dead epithelial cells from your palms (YUK!). Microfibre cloth, barely damp, tiny ammount of detergent (washing up liquid, the stuff that's kind to your hands styleee):)

Maye its a problem after the skin has been treated at the tannery, The Connelly guys used to show us the affect skins where the acid has removed the surface, we were also taught never to wash the leather with a scented soap as this can rot the stitching, its all beyond me

I do treat the wheel every so often. just a little cleaner on a rag. Yes it does make the wheel slightly more slippery but it wears off after a day or so.
Now - whats the best way to clean my tartan blanket?

When I bought my '93 c class the leather on the top half of the steering wheel was a bit like suede, obviously caused by sweaty hands. I tried a few things which didn't work but at the finish all I used was ordinary black shoe polish and buffed it up. After a few treatments I got my shiney surface back and now I just use Renapur Leather Balsam to keep it that way.

Just trying to help.
My son has an SL with tan leather and has a box full of expensive car care products [which he never uses]. They're all very good but for this purpose they were all naff. My steering wheel didn't need a quick rub with whatever leather feed happened to be hyped the most it was as rough as a Benidorm boilers thong. I used boot polish because it worked. If the contents of a badgers anal glands had worked I would have used that too.
cheers

If your steering wheel's feeling a bit rough, try some saddle soap.
Someone recommended it to me here on the forum anbout a year ago, and it worked great. Feels a bit sticky for a day or two, but then it's great.

The saddle soap was recommended by me and that is what he has ordered, it is by far the best
