'A 16-year-old boy has been charged with causing criminal damage after almost 30 vehicles were attacked in a tyre slashing spree on Tyneside.
Police said 26 vehicles had tyres ripped in an area of Wallsend between Monday and Tuesday.
Cars had been targeted in Barr Close, Brighton Close and Bodmin Close, a spokesman said.
The youth is expected to appear at North Tyneside Magistrates' Court on Thursday morning. '

As some one who woke up one morning on a small estate to find that this sort of thing had occurred over night, I can well remember the chaos as families couldn't get their kids to school, hospital appointments where missed, people didn't get to work till late.
Then there was the run on the local tyre fitters. The youth involved in ours had been upset over breaking up with his girlfriend. Went to the trouble of attending the mags court and listened to the crap spouted in his defence by his solicitor . Didn't know who I wanted to thump the most, the slasher or the solicitor.

The poor little dear has feelings and this has probably been brought on by some traumatic situation he was in, like his father leaving his mother (probably before he was even born) or being sexually abused, or even losing at conkers.

No, I think he should get off with some form of counselling and given a holiday for his whole family to enjoy. But let it not be said that he got off scot-free, he would have to endure endless hours of enjoyment and hero worship from his peers, that in itself is a huge burden to carry on such young shoulders.

And, if everything works out well, he could progress onto car jacking or joy riding. What an honour it would be for the Magistrate to be able to know that instead of slamming him into a small cell with colour TV and all mod cons, he has actually created the ultimate jolly nice person to live next door to.

I agree 100% with Helen. It wasn't HIS fault.

Providing he is sorry, and promises not to be naughty ever again, then everything will be alright.

Perhaps a couple of hours walking around a car bodyshop and a handout from the Public Purse for inconveniencing him, would be sufficient recompense and would help him accept the re-direction of his feelings towards Society.
