Without wanting to sound too stupid how do I know if I have a 'cat'. I am replacing the rear exhaust box and have realised that the next box in is also fairly well coroded.

On checking the GSF parts mag I would think I need a centre box however I appear to have three boxes one which sits under the drivers seats long and thin, another which is shorter with two in pipes and one out leading to the rear box.

I can find no diagrams of the exhaust system anywhere any suggestions or links for a Sunday investigation?

300TE 24v 1991

Thanks

Peter

cat in a box

Do not think you will have a "cat" in a 1991 car

I've got a Sept 91 300CE-24 and it has a cat. There is a sticker on the front edge of the engine bay with "KAT"

hope this helps. part 41 is reffered to as muffler, central.

there is no reference to a cat - emissions tests (MOT) are lax for pre 1992 cars.

(later cars have reference to a cat...)

OK here is the simple way. Look in your filler cap. If it says unleaded only (bleifrei), it is a cat car.

cat out of the box

Thanks guys the picture was most helpfull. It is part 41 that is damaged. The previous box type is obviously part of the front section.

Appreciated

Now for the second question. As GSF does not stock or supply the centre box for the 24v does anybody know anyone who does prior to me visiting the main dealer?

Thanks
