Cat Removal - Can I remove the catalyctic converter

I have a 1991 1.8 190E fitted with a catalyctic converter. The car has done 130,000 miles. As the car is pre 1992 I understand that I can legally remove the cat. The new exaust will have to accept the lambda sensor but will there be any modifications required to the engine management? Does anyone know of a exaust system that would be a straight swap?
