Hi Everyone.
Hope you're well.
Just purchase a 2018 GLA 200D and was wondering if some of you have heard of the cat Converter being stolen or if there is a way to protect it?

Spoke to MERCS spare parts and they say it is pretty high in the engine so very hard to access...therefore fairly safe...

please let me know your views or comments on this.

Kind regards
J

Had a friend who 'lost' one from a Lexus and after replacement the dealer fitted a cage to make it harder to steal.

I do know protective cages are now quite common generally speaking but they are not fool proof. They just slow the thieves down.

On some cars they are easy to get to than on others but, if you’re concerned, get under the car yourself, see if one can get a cordless reciprocating saw around the Cat or associated pipe work easily. If so, then it’s a risk. Do consider if they hack away how much more expensive the repair could be if they have to do more damage than necessary.

Also remember these thieves are usually armed with hammers and other tools, working in groups and sadly, if they want it, they will get it. (No justice or deterrent but that’s a moan for another day).
