Hi can any one help me. I have a 2003 ml with audio 10 single cd and a bose system. I have had a cd changer installed in the back compartment. The problem being that both the Bose system and the cd changer work on fibre optisc and have a plug each. there is only 1 plug in the back of the head unit for a fibre connection. where cani get some sort of splitter so both can be fitted.
Cheers. Bill

You do not need a splitter.

The D2B fibre connection acts as a ring. Each device simply has one connector with two cables in. The devices are connected together in a loop.

What is the problem you are experiencing?

Hi Alfie. Thanks for your reply. When i pull the head unit out, there is a f/o cable plugged in the head unit from the bose amp and another f/o cable with the same connections hanging loose that comes from the CD changer. Where does this plug in. If you take out the Bose amp plug and put in the changer plug, the changer comes to life, but obviously no sound because the amp is unplugged. Hope yopu can help. Cheers. Bill

This sounds to me like someone has attempted a retro fit of either the CD changer or the BOSE amp.

If you do not have a B connector (the one with the speaker feeds in it) then the Bose was most likely there to begin with and the CD changer has been added later.

What you will need to do is to either obtain a converter that takes in both feeds and inputs them into the head unit as one, in a ring type of connection (Not a splitter) so that the continuity of the 'ring' is kept or you are going to have to open up the connections and make the ring complete with the parts plus a spare connector.

Hi Alfie. The bose was there from day 1. I have added the changer but the f/o cables were already in place for the Changer. The head unit has a button marked CDC on it so it must be a Merc part that i need to make it all work. I live on the Isle of Wight and the local main dealer is not very helpful. Where can i get this part. Cheers. Bill

I dont have a specific part number for this as the D2B ring is normally split out and re cabled when adding in a CD changer.

You could probably do this yourself if you are a little technically minded. All you need is a D2B slice (A little connector that allows you connect two single D2B cables together). then prise open the two connectors you have. take the input from one and connect it to the output from the other with your slice connector. Take the remaining input and output cables (one from the CDC and one from the BOSE) and reassemble one of the connectors with these. Insert this connector into your head unit. you may need to experiment with which of the CDC or BOSE amp appears first on the ring input to the head unit.

If you are at all unsure, then any reasonable car audio installer should be able to do this for you.

bose amp

the bose amp does not use the fiber optic connection it only uses the speaker wirers for the sound hope this helps
if you have the phone system this is what is using the d2 fiber ring and it is where you will have to connect the changer

There are two types of BOSE Amplifier for the ML (w163):
1) the type I have, which is Analogue. It takes the Speaker output (B Connector) as input to the BOSE Amplifier. (aka years ago, when you wanted a Booster amp, they always used this method of boosting the original speaker output by using an RC network to drop the signal level and condition it, then input this signal into a more powerful Amp).
2) Digital which hangs off the D2B ring.

If Bill Grindley hasnt got the B Connector then chances are he has a digital BOSE Amplifier.
