Hi, the 00 C180 (W202) I have just purchased has had its autochanger pilfered by some mean-spirited previous owner., negotiated a further discount based on the fact from the dealer.

Now any advice on what can be fitted, I assume any reasonable brand with DIN connection will work, or is it advisable to saty with a Blaupunkt ?
I am not a heavy user of CD ,mostly using the radio anyway, so something basic but good quality is what I am after.

Also any advice on a good place to purchase, preferably online, as like everything in Ireland these days I know I will get ripped off if I try to buy locally.

Thanx

The answer is very simple - maybe! Just gone through this loop with our SLK and couldnt believe how difficult it was. I could (and did) buy a JVC radio cassette and 12 CD autochanger on Ebay for £130, but the cost of a suitable autochanger only including an appropirate cable was £300!

Has the prevoius owner left the cabling in place, so all you have to do is plug in the new unit? Is the link standard or optical (whatever that means but my MB dealer thought it was important)? The easiest thing to do is take the car to your local ICE dealer and ask them what they can do for you - take the advise, make sure you understand the options - then buy on line and fit it yourself.

OK, thanks for reply, The cabling is in place (DIN type male plug in the boot), not sure though if its optical or not, first thing to check.
Not in a big rush on this so will do as you advise and tread carefully.

Hi,
the easiest way to explain this is to look at the plug if it has metal pins then is cant be Fibre optical can it? www.caraudiodirect.co.uk used to do a section on after market cd units for standard headunits either way I would give them a ring and they will sort it out for you :D

Peter, thanks, yes it is a standard cable with male DIN plug pins, An update is I found a manual for the Tuner ( Its a Blaupunkt Sydney RC126), this recommends the Blaupunkt CDC A05 or CDC A071 changers.

I checked the caraudiodirect site and they sell a CDC A03, have a query in with them at the moment if they believe this would work.

Cheers
