:( :( :( Hello,
please bear with me as this is my first attempt to glean information on this site. I have owned my lovely c220 cdi for a year, but sadly the cd player in the radio packed up, it keeps giving the message cds err everytime i try to play a disc, so i thought i would treat myself to a cd changer. i have read somewhere that on my model and year (2001), it should be pre-wired with the power connection, so i bought a fibre optic lead, stripped the radio out of its mooring and searched for hours but could not find any wires with the appropiate plug to suit the mercedes benz changer i had bought on ebay. has anybody out there any ideas on my problem.

In my experience the CD changers on the pre facelift W203 were not pre-wired.

The CD changer as a factory option is placed in the glove box. There are two cables used to drive it. The D2B fibre cable and the power/wakeup cable. These are, in my experience, never present unless the car came with a CD changer.

They cost about £90 in total depending on where you get them from. They are often available on ebay, particularly ebay Germany. You only need 1/2metre length cables.

Its plug and play once you have the right cables.

You could of course upgrade to COMAND

Your car is a pre facelifted one as its a 2001 model year. The facelift came out from April 2004 build onwards.

Are you sure the original CD player is at fault and not the CD's you are trying to play. My CLK comes up with the same fault whenever I try to play CD's I have copied (although they play fine on three other CD players in my house and on CD players in friends cars). Original CD's play with no problem. I have tried numerous makes of CD and fiddled endlessly with the settings on my computer on which I burn the CD's - but no way will they play!
