I have recently purchased an E240 (W210), first registered in June 2000, which has a factory fitted MB Audio 10 CD ICE system. The unit has a CDC button to also select CDs from a CD changer unit, if fitted. I have contacted my local MB dealer in an attempt to establish if the car will be pre-wired to accept a CD changer, however, they were unable to confirm one way or the other.

Does anyone know if the cars are pre-wired and if I will need a security code to fit a CD changer. The unit I am considering to purchase is an Alpine 6 CD changer, which comes in two variants; for pre-wired or non pre-wired, hence the reason for my enquiry.

Thanks for the replies.

I have been advised that a boot mounted Becker or Alpine MC3198, is the cd changer I require. This model is fibre optic compatible and the car should be wired to plug and play?

Has anyone experience of fitting this model of unit?

Bob, The changer unit is located behind the removable panel in the boot of the W210 estate, driver side. There is a recess below the general level of the boot and it sits on a mounting bracket in the void. Its well protected there. I have one fitted there but it was the MB option when the car was ordered. As far as I know the connection is fibre optic. However I must add that my 95 Peugeot 405 has a Peugeot labelled Clarion unit with a cd changer on which the sound is vastly superior to the Mercedes Audio 10 unit.

could I be cheeky and ask for the fitting instructions? I have one to fit in my 210 now, and would like to able to do it without reverse engineering from the mem's.
