Hi all, the electrically operated CD changer cover panel just above the ashtray (although I don't have a CD changer it's only a cubby hole) on my 2004 W211 is refusing to open correctly. When the button is pressed it just makes a continual clicking noise and won't open any further. If you then give it a gentle pull it will open all the way. When you press the button to close it the panel will retract ok until almost shut, then it requires a push to close it all the way.
I've tried a spot of silicone spray to loosen things up but still no good.

Any suggestions on what's wrong & how to go about removing & fixing it would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks...................Joker.

Hi all, Thanks to Malcolm's papers he sent i've managed to get the kinematics compartment out. Think the fault lies with the motor unit itself as when you grip the small drive sprocket under power, it turns for most of the way, then begins the clicking sound. Reckon there might be some stripped sprocket teeth in the innards!
The light has beaten me tonight so i've took a note of the number on the motor unit & put it back together.

Guess it's a call to the dealer in the morning unless anyone knows another source for a part like this?

Any advice/suggestions would be most appreciated.................Joker

Malcolm, that's definitely gonna be done soon. Still need that kinematics compartment to open properly though cos that's where the CD changer fits behind!.............Joker

Hi all, fitted a replacement compartment today, now works nice & smooth just like it should. Before I ordered a new part I took the motor/gear pack (which is attatched to the compartment) apart and found three teeth stripped from the main plastic sprocket. I guess that these compartments gradually stiffen up over time & put too much strain on the sprocket teeth.
Cost me £97 from Merc dealer, but worth it to keep her working as she should.

Must start looking for the correct CD Changer unit now, so I can keep the Sat Nav disc in the main slot & my favourite George Formby CD's in the changer.

Taking her in to Northampton Mercedes tommorrow AM for an aircon service - Half Price offer on at moment £49 all in. Always best to keep the wife cool !

Thanks to Malcolm for the info & papers to help me sort this one out.
