My 2001 S class has a six disc cd changer in the boot. When loaded witrh discs the stereo searches/checks the six discs then when it goes back to play disc one it struggles for about 10 seconds then the display says the magazine is empty...

Is the multi changer faulty or is there a software problem?

Cheers guys, Dan

You could try a lens cleaning disc... nothing to lose if faced with changer replacement anyway. It worked in my 540 nav drive.

and make sure the fibre optic connector

is sitting snug in its socket. If all that fails, a new bit of innards is required. My local becker specialist fixed ours ( same symptoms) for 45 quid.

Thanks for the info. I have the same problem, magazine jams thoguh and takes some clever dexterity to get it out. $45 to fix it is not bad. Meanwhile the 6 cd changer in the 1995 Peugeot is still working faultlessly.....

Having a similar kind of problem ...

After changing the six disks in my 5.6 year old Merc CD changer,
the following msg. appears on the front panel :-

"No Disk 1-6"

I removed all 6 CDs, and re-seated them, to no avail - can anyone tell me what the problem might be here?

Cheers ... soulboy (1st post - E220CDI owner, 2000 model)

Reasonable suggestion, but ...

... yes, I'm pleased to confirm that the CDs were all inserted in the magazine with the label side "up". Oh, and after re-checking this morning, the error msg. on the display actually reads :-

"No CD 1-6"

Hoping someone can help with this - I listen to lots of different music during my commute to/from work (stuff that my wife isn't particurly fond of), and there seems to be a dearth of "car audio" repairers in this area.

Had the same problem, took it to the merc dealer, mechanic ejected the magazine and reinserted it and it worked as normal. Has been ok since, made me look a bit stupid though. regards AA

I had a similar problem so decided to check out the cost of a replacement CD changer in my 1999 E300TD. MB quoted £280 + vat. I went to my local ICE dealer and fitted a Pioneer single shot CD/MP3/WMA/Aux-input head unit for £100 including fitting and vat and it sounds much better than the original Audio 10/20 (can't remember exact model).

Another wee problem ...

Player has gone on the blink again - display says "No Mag".

Went into the boot to eject the magazine, and it won't come out!!

I know these things are delicate, so can anyone suggest a way to coax it out without damaging anything?

Thanks again,

best thing to do is to disconnect it and wait 5 mins then reconnect and it may unload

Press the eject button then vicously jab the cartridge with your fingers and it will come out.

I had the same problem. I could just reach the plug on the rear without dislocating my shoulder and eased it out. Reconnecting seemed to bring it back to life and the cartridge would eject. Ditched it in the end.

silly question but are the cds all shop bought or downloaded then burned to disc. ive found many systems up until around 5years ago in cars can struggle to read burned cd's. worth checking before ditching the system!

My 02 has nothing but burned CD (legit downloads in the main) and can not say I have yet had a cd fail to read. It might be as I am old school that I write a 40x or 50x cd at no more than 16x when preparing for audio

could be the answer mark! i admit that majority of systems read them no problems, but the ones that do give problems tend to be older systems. newer ones had the necessary hardware / software built in. its only recently that the manufacturers have realised how common this practise is! why buy at shop for a tenner what you can legally download and burn to disc for 2 or 3 quid!

I recently stripped down a head unit from a Ford Galaxy that the silver backing from a Verbatim CD had peeled off into. I've never seen the silver all come off a CD before but it had on this one and there was pretty glitter all throughout the mechanism. A few sharp smacks on the back of the unit and all was working again.

The type of disc has little to do with the eject, a power down is always the first thing to try

Sorry, but I've been away for a coupla days ...

Thanks for the suggestions on how to fix this problem - I'll see what I can achieve after work this evening, and will report back tomorrow. :?

FWIW, all the disks I use in my car are shop-bought - I found that 'burned' copies were just too unreliable (tho' I'm sure that newer players will perform better).

As an aside, does anyone know if the newer Mercs come complete with an Ipod/MP3 player docking point? Might just be time to change the car (£2k from the Govt. too!!). ;)

Thanks again ... soulboy
