Hi. I just (finally after a 3 week delay) took delivery of my S320 CDi (2002) today.

Annoyingly when I choose CD on COMAND it's saying CD MAGAZINE EMPTY.

I took it out and made sure there was a CD in every slot. I put it back in and watched the COMAND screen through the rear window.

It said LOADING CD while at the same time I could hear the changer checking each CD. When it had finished, the screen went back to CD MAGAZINE EMPTY :(

Any idea what this is? Label side up is correct?

I don't fancy taking it back to the dealer if I can get away with it.

Disconnect (power) the CD changer for a while so that it can reset itself and try again. It worked for me.

This might be too obvious, but are the discs in upside down?

Thanks all for the suggestions. They are oridinasy audio CD's but at first I had some in that I had written myself. I took those out just in case and tried proper ones. Same result.

The car needs to go back for some work on the locks. At the moment it's very hit and miss. The pneumatics are not working today either so I cannot open the boot to get at the CD changer now :( The emergency key I have doesn't even fit this car. God knows how they managed that.

When I can get the boot open I will try the above and report back.

Thanks again

@ Chas. Thanks for the link. If it comes down to replacing the changer that link looks like a nicer option than the standard one. I really miss my old Sony MP3 head unit from a previous car.

Did you get it from a MB dealer ?
Warranty should cover all the probs.

No I got it from a generic dealer. It's got to go back next week anyway to get the central locking sorted out.

Anyway, I found the car had blown a fuse on the pneumatic thing so now I can open the boot again.

I could not get at the CD changer properly to disconnect the DC so I took out the fuse instead. It was no better after though :(

Paul,

Did you not have a similar problem with your telephone? If so, suggests a common origin for the 2 defects.

My car was at MB bodyshop last year for warranty repairs. When I dropped the car off, I removed the CD cartridge. Upon collecting the car 2 weeks later I loaded the full cartridge but CDs would not play, message said cartridge was empty.
Took car to Parkham garage and they removed the mechanism and clicked something into place and everything was fine. I was told this is common when the battery is disconnected and connected with the cartridge not in place.
Contact Paul at Parkham Garage www.parkhamgarage.co.uk, he may be able to help.

I do have a problem with the phone, but I am pretty sure that's just a bad connection or a broken wire in near the hinged arm rest. If I move it I can get the phone to work.

Car is away at the moment having the locks messed about with so have not had a chance to look at either the phone or the CD :(
