Hi,
I did,nt think Mercedes built a changer into the dash thought they were boot or glove box mounted. Capitalmartin take a pic of you what think is the CD player and post it on here and someone will be able to give confirmation.

Hi,
Sorry mis understood you could remove it and take it to for repair but that would cost IMO at least £30 and take up to 2 weeks.
Put in Mercedes Audio 10 into e bay and you will be able to buy 1 from approx. £50 for a 2nd hand unit or £129 will buy you a new unit.
Just bought a Audio 10 CD/TUNER for my car for £35 and it would of operated from you steering wheel controls to.

Hi,
Mine is/was a audio 10 Tuner/ Cassette which i changed to a audio 10 Tuner/CD and removal was via keys inserted into little slots on the lower edge of the stereo unit one on the right one on the left.
the keys suitable for mine are

Before you start pulling it out, the audio 10 is prone to crashing (like a PC). Do yourself a favour. Pull the fuse, leave it out for 30 seconds and pop it back. It may just jump back into life.

There will be a single fuse for the radio in one of the fuseboxes. Just pull it out. I don't know which it is on your car but the fuse chart in the fuse box will indicate which it is. On mine it was in a secondary fusebox under the back seat, but with the chart plus the manual and I found it in a few minutes. Do it with the key out (off anyway).
30, seconds if anything, is longer than necessary - a few secs was normally enough for me, but 30 will do no harm. Its not an exact science.

If you have to remove it, once you have inserted the keys, it should just pull straight out.

Hi JBerks

so I dont have to remove the air vents...? cos thats what some cowboy ICE company have told me. who are willing to repair it but not remove it....

I shall try the fuse and see what happens, ive checked it and it says it is in the bonnet, and if I remove the stereo and put it back does it need to be recoded...? or does it automatically recognise the car....?

AFAIK you just pull the audio 10 out. The Audio 20 would require more of a strip down but the 10 just slides out as normal. I'm not sure the Audio 10 is coded.

CD 10 Mercedes

Hi Folks,

Have just replaced my cd 10, sound chip blew on last one, have fitted second hand one from ebay, £70, handy enough to fit, so can help you out there - however i have encountered a new problem, cd and tuner will play for about 15 seconds then tuner turns of and on display 'PROD' is displayed any ideas anybody??? Have fitted a phone kit, the folks fitting it dislodged some coins my kids had kindly inserted thus the blown sound chip.

On fitting the player,

Start by removing casing surrounding gear stick, open the ash tray, and at the dash end pull up, two clips beneath. slide whole piece forward and rotate to keep it out of your way. Next remove ashtray two plastic clip push towards middle and pull up in an arch. This comes right out, bt small lead attached to light, again just set this to one side. Now the bit folks dnt like, romoving the vent covers from the top of the dash. Pull the slats down at the top till you can easly slip a small screw driver through, if you shine a torch in you will see two clips one on either side, put small screw driver into centre of clip and gently tug repeat on other side.(glasses screw driver is what i used). Unit then slip off. beneath you will see two star head screws hold face unit on take these out. The bottom of the face unit has two metal clips again shine in a torch and you will see them, release agin with gentle preesure of screw driver. You should now be able to release whole facia. CD player is attached with two screws and unit beneath the same, simply unscrew and you are there. This sounds complicated but i'm no expert and i managed it in under half an hour.

Hope this helps.

CD Audio 10 'PROD' mode fixed

Hi All,

Went around the world trying to get this one sorted, eventually ended up having to take it merc dealer. They explained that these CD units themselves are not coded rather it is the car computer that is programmed to recognise the unit. If the unit is out of the car for any real length of time it will go into 'PROD' mode, it's a security feature. I tried all sorts of short cuts disconnecting the -ive terminal on the cars battery for half hour, in the hope that the whole thing would re-set and re-recognise the unit, but no good. In the end had to go to merc, i was expecting a really big bill, though i was pleasantly surprised, they ran a diagnostics check identified and fixed the stereo programming problem, washed and waxed car and hovered and polished inside for £38.00, so not bad at all, i think.

Hope this is of use to someone.
