Hi all
Dont know if this is the right section ,so if not can one of the mods move it please.

Probably a stupid question ,but my nan always said there was no such thing :p

I have a 124 diesel estate 1990 model and the cd player has packed up,and I cant for the life of me ,see how to get it out.
So do I need to remove the centre console to get in behind it? if so how do I do this?

Any other ideas appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I presume you are referring to a one-shot (single disc) player?

Is it the original equipment or an after market player?

Some DIN mounts I've seen have a surround that can be unclipped and behind this are four holes to extract the player. Make up two pieces of metal coathanger, bend them into a hoop and you can push these in the holes to remove the player chassis.

OK have removed the clip on surround and there are no holes so it isnt that system.
I have run a fine blade top and bottom and there is nothing holding it there.
There are two metal tags each side which I think hold it in but not sure what to do with them.

Dont want to break anything so, help please.

It depends what make of head unit you have. They all have different locking systems. They will all need an unlocking tool

The simplest way is to take the car to your local car audio place and ask them to remove it

The side metal tags can be released by carefully sliding two thin bladed flat screwdrivers down the side of the unit-it should then pull out. Failing that, as Nick says, most mechanics keep the necessary keys.
