CD Wont Work

've recently purchased a 2002 merc cdi
i cant insert a cd into the cd player
it feels like theres already a cd in it
when i press th cd button it says cds err or sumtimes it says no cd
i cant see a cd magazine in the boot so im guessing its a normal single cd player
Please sumbody help me :-(
