Hello All,
Question re 6 cd changer. I like my simple old tech of my SL500. Yesterday while swapping between cd's it just stopped recognising the CD cassette. When removed and re inserted.
It would normally scan each individual cd when the cassette is inserted before allowing use. Simply stopped doing the scanning process. This is a new replacement cd player which was bought from Germany to fit into the case 8 years ago as the original one had died. Supplied and fitted by local Hifi company. I note it is hot outside presently and wonder whether this has a effect?. Any thoughts or similar experience.
Best regards
Malcolm

Might just be a temp issue, expanded with the heat so can’t access the cd’s
My built in satnav said it was too in the smart car yesterday - it still played music but the screen wouldn’t work at all

Hello all again, let the temp cool. Still no joy. The changer will still not read the cd's. the radio functions fine, sat nav fine, single cd fine.
So the optical fibre circuit circle is fine. (as one down all down). checked fuses for cd changer. All good.
the fact that it stopped functioning as i changed from one cd to another makes me think the changer may have a error
think i will take her to a indie to see what the star says

Hi
What does the COMAND display say is happening (or not) when you select the changer. For example 'not installed'; ' no Cassette installed'; ' Changer not available'. There might well be no fault code showing, if the changer is alive (viz awake up, no MOST loop breakage).
These changers are old now and often the machanics become erratic - the parts wear or the grease has solidified. Removal, disassembly, cleanup and relube is often sufficient to refresh them.

Removal can be a bit of a pain, but it is possible to extract the changer without undoing half the cabin rear end.

Have you tried the thump test to shock the cassette into behaving - you tube and other posts here show/tell how its done

Thanks for your comments, I think as you suspect the changer is Gunked up. 'Changer unavailable' is the command message. As it was working then stopped while changing between one cd to another. Makes me think it is mechanical. Disconnected battery this morning and just reconnected to see if a reset worked. But no go. Re-set everything. Still 'Changer unavailable'. The Cartridge insert and remove is fine. Just will not send the cd's individually into the 'Changer ' to be read which allows changer to function. I have used the shock test in the past to get a stuck cartridge out which worked. It is a 8 year old new cd changer from Germany which replaced the original changer. Old KIT is fun.:)
