1. Sometimes when you select Park and take your foot off the brake the car lurches forward slightly ? Normal ?

2. S/E S is standard isnt it not Sport !

3. S/E i think on old CE's that the switch is the wrong way round IE when S is covered its seems a more responsive car. I'm not alone thinking this either.

Whaddya reckon guys ?

Sooper,

For late 88 to mid 93:

If you push the switch forward, 'S' (standard) should be visible and standard should be set. (car will take off in 2nd on light throttle, and 1st in full throttle)

If you push the switch back, 'E' (economy) should be visible and economy should be set. (car will take off in 2nd even with full throttle) (gears also change up at lower speeds than 'S').
NOTE: 'E' is disconnected during kickdown.

Is it possible that the switch was replaced (and connected viceversa)

The S/E switch operates a relay that alters the vacuum running to the gear box. I have just had the box rebuilt on my 230TE and this switch works as I think it should.

When set at S and I accelerate to overtake, the box kicks down. In the same situation and set at E, it does not kick down (which can make overtaking a bit scarey).

Basically the box will act differently when set in E, mainly not changing gear so readily.

I'm not sure where the switch behind the accelerator fits in, but I'm guessing that this bypasses the S/E switch to allow kickdown for overtaking.

Yea turnip it can be quiet leisurely in 'E' mode.

But we have to differentiate betweem full throttle and kickdown. In kickdown there should be no difference.

Tks Gentlemen.

It certainly seems then that someone has rewired the switch wrong. jaysus. of all the things to get wrong.

I was in "S" (sublime ?) showing this morning and decided to overtake a bunch of meandering schleppes./ And the usual burst of power at 45mph full kickdown - offski didnt occur. same thinga little later with E showing and it shot off faster than a scouser with a job offer.

I normally leave the setting at E =economy and manually change down to 3rd or 2nd with the selector lever, just like a manual gearbox without the clutch. Much better control as long as you remember to flick it back up to 3rd/drive and ease the throttle slightly to encourage changes up as the speed builds up.

interesting point.

So if you in 3rd and kick down spock logic dictates a quicker kick to 2nd ?

I tried it in E on the way home, I managed to get to full throttle and it stayed in top. I then pushed it so the little switch under the accelerator clicked over...it immediatly changed to 3rd.
