hi ,
i have a 1991 260e and was wondering, does this car have a cat or not.I have to replace my exhaust due to corrosion and wanted to check.
If it has a cat, can i replace it with a regular center box and save £500? or will the injection system need recalibrating

regards

jim

I don't think the '91 W124s had cats, but I'm not too sure.
Take your chassis number down to your local Mercedes parts department and they'll be able to tell you for sure. Then you can go get one cheaper else where :D

My 1991 W124 had a CAT. It doesnt need it by law so you can remove the section with no problems. The injection system seemed to re map ok without having to do any manual tweaks.

you should be able to visually check whether or not you have a cat fitted.

Have a look at the downpipe and see if there is a lambda sensor sticking out of it. There will be no other electrics attached to the exhaust. If you've not got one then it's reasonable to assume the car is cat free.
