Central locking after key fob battery change

W245 B Class 180CDI As above - won't now unlock or lock via the radio control, works fine on the infra red (both keys do). Only just got the car. It was a bit intermittent so I replaced the batteries in both keys. Cleaned them with contact cleaner. Red light on keys comes on as it should but the car only responded to the infra red system now. Any ideas please?

Does the car manual mention any synchronizing of the key to the car alarm system.....

Has the keys been dropped at all? The RF coil can become dislodged from the circuit board so that the RF side no longer works - you can solder it back on if you're handy with a soldering iron.

There's nothing in the handbook about synchronising keys and I called an MB specialist to check. That's an interesting point about the keys being dropped - I did wonder about trying to withdraw the circuit boards but couldn't quite see how to get hold of them. I'll see if I can find some very fine pliers....

The normally just slide out - key style dependent - some good videos on the Tube of You.

Try pressing lock ,then unlock , hold together until the red light flashes .
