Central Locking Alarm Probs

When locking or unlocking my 95 C250 both Red and Green lights on the door lock and rearview mirror both flashed instead of either or. This locks and Alarm both still worked and this went on for a couple of weeks till one night far from home I couldnt get into the car as the fob wouldnt open or disarm the alarm.
I put new batteries in the fob and it worked perfect with just the red or green light when opening or locking then after a day or so both lights would come on occaisionally then within a week the car would not unlock.
Before I spend £154.25 on a new fob can anyone suggest if this is what it is. Before this it has been perfect with the same batteries for over 2 years.

Get MB to check the fobs. I had a remote locking problem with my C240 (it's a w203 though) and it turned out to be the electronic gubbins inside the car that worked out what to do with the signals from the remote once it had received them. Unfortunately it was horribly expensive (although my car was still under warantee so it didn't cost me anything). I don't think the part is all that much (about £300) but because it's behind the dash the labour was horrendous (nearly £400).
