Hi

I have a problem with my S320 year 2000.

The central locking has failed - nothing happens on remote or with button on dash.

The car doors are open but the boot won't open. I have tried the remote control and also the button inside the car to no avail. I have stuff inside which i need fairly urgently!

Sometimes when I push the remote to lock the car, the indicators flash like normal and the alarm goes off but the doors remain open.

Help please!

thanks

rob

the boot is not locked - the actual barrel is in the unlocked position but when you push the button on the boot itself, it won't open. The central locking on the doors is not working at all.

I am looking at my handbook and can't find any emergency opening procedure?

any ideas what to do?

The key for the boot lock is in the wrong position, it will unlock when the key is set correctly, in the wrong position the button just goes in and does nothing.

Have you checked that the remote fob is working by trying it in front of a digital camera

Just adding that the key is used to open the boot, and the button plays no part in this, the key maybe stiff, but it will open it

ok , key is at home. We are talking about the little key which goes into the remote aren't we?

So you just push the key into the boot lock to open it which is the emergency release?

Fob is ok I think.

Any ideas what might be wrong with the central locking?

Yes turning the key should open the boot, though it maybe a little stiff to turn.

There is a fuse on the car for the Vacuum pump that may have blown, or the pump could have packed up,though this is quite rare

thanks for the advice - got into the boot with the key.

Auto electrician has just finished.

He had to restore/update the software for the main control unit situated in the boot on the nearside.

Once did this everything returned to normal and has stated if same thing happens again, need to send this unit away for specialist repair.

Have you come across this before?

Very seldom,, it could be a SAM that is failing to recognize the pump as it is CAN controlled

Yes no problem

CAN this is a self check data system that flows around the car, one can 2 systems running at the same time, a high speed for important things like the running systems and a slow speed one for not so important things like body components. Just think of a suit case conveyor at an airport where the cases go round and round, this is the same on the car CAN BUS. components called nodes take the info when the need it, just the same as one takes their suit case of the conveyor belt when you need it, if you do not, that case, the same as info on the nodes, will just go round and round till it is taken.

The SAM, this is a signal acquisition module that takes and stores in its memory all of the components that are fitted to the car, so that if say as in your case, the SAM has lost the information in that your car has a PSE pump for the locking, then the car cannot lock or unlock as the car does not know that the locking PSE pump is fitted, this info comes from the CAN BUS.

So if your car is connected up to STAR the MB diagnosis test set, it would say PSE pump cannot communicate with the SAM, or if you searched for the PSE pump it could say PSE pump not found. So one takes a look at the wiring diagrams to see where the PSE pump is controlled, and the SAM that is used for this pump. Also in STAR you can turn the PSE pump of and on, to see if the fault is within the PSE pump. Most faults are within a SAM as like a computer micro processors can fail or go down as we say.

I hope that this helps a little

Just get the car plugged into STAR, most indies are much cheaper, and what went wrong on your car will be stored, and this info can be read out.

Its often very hard with a 1 off to be sure that the fault was not just some glitch or was caused by water in a module, this has been a hard unusual Winter

Nice cars the CL500,, and yes the fuse can blow on the CL when the pump stops, I have seen that before
