Hi. New member here.

I have a 1995 S280 My door locks were sticking recently and then they stopped working. At about the same time I could smell melting rubber. So I pulled the fuse that controls the door locks (located in the trunk). The fuse had not blown. I checked supply to the fuse and that is OK. I then checked all the fuses in the fuse box in the trunk, and also the set of fuses under the bonnet). All fuses were OK. Are there any other fuses located somewhere else in this model?

But the 12V supply to the vaccum pump has failed (according to the wiring diagram it should be hot in run or start, or hot at all times). It is showing OVolts. I guess I now need to find the spot where the rubber melted, but dont know where to start. I have tracked the vacuum pump supply line from the pump then goes under the left rear seat door sill to the front seat door sill and then under the front seat to the centre console.

I read a thread here that told me about a fuse box under the parking brake. Thats as far as I have got.

I would really appreciate two things please??
- can anyone tell me what might have melted and where I might find it
- can someone please tell me how to remove my centre console (I have found the two tamper-proof bolts on each side, back of console, but cannot lift the gearlever cover or find any other fixing bolts).

This forum is the best I have found and the moderators/experts very helpful.

Thanks
Harry

The vacuum pumps on a 140 have a hard life, and it is possible for them to go short circuit, yes its hot at all times.

As far as I know there are no fuses under the gear shift
