Folks,
While I await the arrival of a manual, can anyone give any clues as to why my W124's central locking may not be working. Searching here seems to indicate a motor under the rear seat (That the same for an estate?) but chap I bought it from said a small sort of sliding device had failed, and a new on ewoudl need to be machined up.

Can anyone offer me a good starting point please?

check your vacuums, the vacuum pump is located under the rear seat footwell, you should be able to hear it pump up/down when you do things with the central locking or adjust the front headlights

if any of the vacuum hoses have come loose then all controls that depend on vacuum including shutting the engine off, may or may not work

a hayes manual is useful in this regard but so is a good check all round the car, start with the pump and work your way around

cheers
