central locking pump runs on

the central locking pump on my 92 300 sl runs on for a few seconds after I have started the car .I dont know how long it has done this as I only noticed when I removed the hardtop recently ,the car locks and unlocks perfectly the pump is only 6 months old and if i interupt fuse no 4 in the boot it stops instantly and does not restart when re instated is this a fault or is this normal.

Hi mark, yes it does run for a few seconds to charge up after locking that's normall I would have said that 3 -4 sec was normal as long as it does not start up again on its own
