I have a C200K Sports Coupe. Late 2005 registered. I am having severe problems with my central locking system. Cannot lock/unlock with fob - have to use emergency metal key. Have replaced batteries in key I use and spare but to no avail. Cannot see the sensor flickering on internal rear view mirror either. Alarm doesn't seem to activate either. I have had my windows tinted very recently and I am praying I haven't made a costly mistake. Someone said that the rear windscreen has sensors and these could have been damaged with the tint?? I must mention that my radio is picking up no reception whatsoever either. Is it all linked? Have booked for diagnosis with Merc dealer (which is about £150 an hour) and I am dreading what they will tell me. Does anyone have any idea???

Hello and welcome,,, several parts to this.

If you have the sensors in the door handles, then the IR part will work on those, if only on the mirror, then the film could be blocking both the IR and the RF long range locking, it would not be that the screen is damaged, it is that the film can block both IR and RF block.

Why not use an indie at a fraction of the price

If all this happened when you had the windows tinted, then you have the answer

Relieved to read your reply Thank you - I was kinda thinking a whole new rear screen would be needed - been stressing all weekend! Yes all the problems occurred after the tints. Will have to get them removed. Glad I found this forum.

The radio reciever for the key is on the rear screen as well as the radio aerial. Tints can mess them up.

As above don't pay £150/hour for what we have just told you for free!

Have cancelled the pricey diagnostic thing with dealer on your advice. Thanks! Sorry to be so dim, but if I have the tint on rear screen removed, will everything be ok? Or is there a chance that the radio aerial and key receiver could be messed up still?? If so, what next? Don't know what to do? Shall I leave the tint and live with it or get it removed? I paid £160 to get it done you see. They were professionals - surely they should have known? What a hassel!

As I said earlier there are tints that do not do this, If you remove the rear screen tint, the radio and RF locking will be back and working, and the IR if you point the remote through the rear window.

I would have a word with the guys that did the work

Can I lock the doors and not set the alarm ?

I'm very much a new boy to Merc's having just bought a 2003 C200k Sports coupe at 80 !
Only two days after buying I walked past the rear of the car which was parked in the garage and peered through the rear, ( I had only found out the previous day that the radio L E D flashes when everything is off ) and I saw a bright red light somewhere near the radio and at that second the alarm went off !

I have no idea how this occured as I have never locked any car when garaged as the garage is always kept locked, on this occasion I had left the driver's window open in order to maneauver but I would not have thought this would set off the alarm when left as I had not locked the doors. I can only assume that somehow I pressed the key fob without knowing, so I wondered if it is possible to lock the doors and not have the alarm switched on ? We almost always travel with our small dog on board and leave him for very short periods while we shop, but I don't feel confident to immobilise the interior sensor if I have a glitch in the system, Reading the instructions it states on immobilising the panel button light flashes briefly, it's a great pity it does not stay on so you are sure it is working before you leave it ! I am sure that given a bit of time I will get to know things a little better and perhaps this is just a one off. westmoors

You alarm is set when locked with the remote,, if it was just locked by pressing down a button on the doors it is not set, the radio LED blinking normally shows that it is set, you have s switch to turn off the internal movement part,, so you can leave a dog in the car
