I own a 94 C-Class 250 and the central locking is no longer working. Over a period of time it worked intermitently but now ceases to work at all. After a quick check on the connections it started to work ok -even though the motor would continue to whine for about ten seconds after I turned the key to open the doors.

Is the unit in need of replacement.

Any advise gratefully received

I'm still new to all this, but if it were mine, I'd suspect a vacuum leak somewhere, unless the locks all operate within a second or two. Otherwise, it could be a connection problem in one of the front door or boot lock switches. When the system changes state, all 3 switches must "make" in order to turn off the motor. Try locking/unlocking from each door/boot in turn & see if one of them is a bit uncertain in operation......that would be the first one to check. Good luck!
