basically it doesn't work.. i just bought a 1983 230 TE which i love .. it just has a few things which need putting right.. Ill make a small list....

-central locking doesnt work
-rear window wiper doesnt work or spray (makes a clicking sound)
-Cockpit light doesnt work, bulb is fine
-indicators does not blink at times..not always

Not really major things. Just would like to know if anybody knows what the cause for any of the above could be. The main one is the central locking. Where would i start in trying to find the cause.

any ideas

cheers

There is a pump underneath the offside rear seat.

Firstly there is a double wire to this. Check you have power to this

There is also a connector with three wire. When you lock a door, there is 12V applied to one of these wires. Each lock has its own wire.

I found my pump sitting in a pool of water. The motor was badly worn and sometimes caused the battery to drain.

The scrapies is the easiest place to find a replacement pump.

I also had a problem with the rear wiper motor and just went and bought a new motor.

I don't think that you have a vacuum pump on your model. The vacuum comes from the inlet manifold. It the split to two non return valve clipped to the engine bay side of the bulkhead.I think that one circuit does the headlamps and fuel cut off (on a diesel) and the other does the central locking. If the head lamps still go up and down then there is nothing wrong with the vacuum supply. Each circuit can affect the other. Common problems are failing to reconnect the vacuum hose onto the back of a headlamp after having removed and refitted the headlamp. More commonly is a split in the diaphragm on one or more of the slave units contained in the doors or fuel filler cap. Try reving the engine and unlocking the door. The increased vacuum should expose the faulty unit or units as they would be the last to open or close. You can isolate the faulty unit by pulling off the hose from the nipple and shoving a nail up the hose. I had a door that would lock under central locking but not open until I stumped up the cash for a new unit.

There is a relay in the tailgate. Check it's operation. There is also the possibility that the shaft has seized through the rear window. The motor can be a real bug*er to get out of the window.

Cockpit light fault may be a result of a failed bimetallic strip if it has the delayed switch off facility. Check to see if you have a power supply and good earth. If not then check fuse condition.

Flasher unit or bad earth or faulty switch.
