Hi all,
My sprinter 208d is rattling a bit and i have been informed it is the timing chain.
There is evicence of the chain having hit a rail (described to me as a guide rail or guard rail) that sits just above the chain. I have booked for the chain to be replaced.
However the damage to the rail is minute and i have heard of suggestions that the tensioner can get clogged with dirt and not work properly.
Any opinions on this?
Should i try cleaning the tensioner first and if so is it a job for myself with some advice from this forum or an expert only job.
Lastly, the mechanic i booked to replace the chain has said the chain will have a removable link which will allow him to "wind" the chain into place without too much dismantling of the engine but a slip on the cog would mean a great deal of work.
Is this a standard or desirable approach to fitting a chain?
Thanks in advance
