Challenging question

Can anyone take up the challenge on this one?
My '98 auto E300td seemed to "kangaroo" in 1st from a standstill till it got into 2nd gear one morning this week. problem re-occurred a few miles later, again from a standstill. The problem isnt present when you manually select 1st gear. Tried switching to the Winter setting in the gearbox (causes car to take off in 2nd), again no problem here but when I switch back to Standard setting on gearbox I've got very low power and poor accelleration. Car had a service last friday. Problerm hasnt re-occurred since but a good local indie reckons it doesnt sound like gearbox, but that it may be turbo problem. Any Thoughts?

More Info...Chalenging Question

A bit more info for anyone who can make a suggestion on this one.
Cruising at 70mph, 2400rpm got the kangarooing again. The power was coming & going and now there seems to be no Turbo (sluggish, low power). Stopping and re-starting removed the the symptoms,...for now at least. Any Thoughts?

How can the turbo be worn in a relatively new car? Anyway, I advise you convert your car to manual.
