changed e270 to e280

why did they change the e270 to e280 engine on the model 2006? was the 270 not good?

They phased out the 5 cylinder diesel. To be fair, it had been around in one guise or another since the 1990s and was getting a bit long in the tooth. Add in emmissions and general deisel progress and it was the end of the road. The 280 is simply a detuned 320cdi - Both are 3l V6s and when you've driven one you'll have answered your question.
